چکیده

Introduction We report the case of an 80-year-old woman with syncope and atrial tachycardia (AT) induced by swallowing. Pharmacologic therapy was ineffective, and she underwent catheter ablation of AT originating from the superior vena cava (SVC). Potential mechanisms of swallow-induced syncope including AT and parasympathetic stimulation are discussed. Electroanatomic correlation with the role for parasympathetic innervation from the aortocaval ganglionated plexus is provided.

Complicated atrial tachycardia due to atrial fibrillation originating from the superior vena cava

INTRODUCTION The superior vena cava (SVC) can act as an origin of atrial fibrillation (AF). The complex structure and special conductive properties of the SVC can result in complicated atrial tachycardia (AT), atrial flutter, or AF. SYMPTOMS AND CLINICAL FINDINGS We report a case of the clinical observation of various kinds of AT and AF in 1 patient. Electrophysiological (EP) studies confirme...

Swallowing-induced atrial tachycardia arising from superior vena cava: Significant involvement of parasympathetic nerve activity

Introduction Swallowing-induced tachyarrhythmia is a rare clinical entity, and is defined as supraventricular tachyarrhythmia, such as atrial premature contractions (APCs), paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (AT), and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, that is reproducibly and consistently induced during a wet or dry swallow. Although the first case of a swallowing-induced tachyarrhythmia was reported ...

Atrial tachycardia arising from an epicardial site with venous connection between the left superior pulmonary vein and superior vena cava.

We describe a case of atrial tachycardia originating from an epicardial site with a venous connection between the left superior pulmonary vein (LSPV) and superior vena cava (SVC). Initial endocardial mapping with multiple electrodes catheters demonstrated early endocardial activation at both the SVC and LSPV. However, radiofrequency applications at the SVC failed to terminate the atrial tachyca...

A Case Report of Neonatal Atrial Flutter with Poor Feeding and Tachypnea

Background: Arrhythmias in neonates are not common and usually affect newborns with a normal heart or those that suffer from structural heart disease. A malignant type of arrhythmias is supraventricular tachycardia. Meanwhile, one uncommon type of supraventricular arrhythmias is atrial flutter (AFL), which is founded upon reentry mechanisms in the atrium. The AFL may result in heart failure or ...

Electrophysiological characteristics and radiofrequency ablation of focal atrial tachycardia originating from the superior vena cava.

The initiation of focal atrial tachycardia (AT) from the superior vena cava (SVC) remains unclear. In 3 patients (2 females, 1 male; aged 57, 66 and 50 years, respectively) with focal AT arising from different parts of the SVC, the AT occurred spontaneously, rather than being induced by electrical stimulation. The cycle length of the tachycardia was highly variable, ranging between 190 and 300 ...
